The Legacy Dohuk mixed-use commercial/residential project for UB Holding in Erbil, Kurdistan (Iraq) is a 234,000 sq.ft.,  20 story building. The client’s requirements included not “up-staging” the adjacent, existing hotel which was built in an Islamic-approved style. This meant the new building which JWRA Architects designed could not be taller, more attractive, or farther forward than the existing adjacent hotel. After meeting the client’s requirements with our first design, we also provided a more contemporary design for the client to consider. The project was unfortunately stopped when terrorist activity in the region suddenly escalated.
